Belton Hondecoeter

Belton Hondecoeter

This magnificent cut velvet was created in the late 19th century for the Hondecoeter Room in Belton House, Lincolnshire. The room is so named because of the three huge oil paintings by the Dutch painter Melchior d'Hondecoeter, depicting scenes of birds in courtyards, that are fitted into the room's panelling. Belton Hondecoeter formed part of the 3rd Earl of Brownlow's effort to restore and preserve Belton House's Carolean features: indeed, the Earl and his wife Adelaide are nearly wholly responsible for the interiors of the house as they appear today. Traditional and dignified, this robust archive fabric is perfect for upholstery.
