Memlinc

Memlinc

c.1870. This pattern was originally painted on a robe in "The Presentation in the Temple" (1485) by Michael Pacher. Watts co-founder G. F. Bodley adapted the elegant design and used it frequently in many of his commissions, includingĀ as curtains and upholstery in the Blue Drawing Room at Powys Castle. The Memlinc is typical of a large repeating pattern designed for upholstery: the oval is perfectly suited in scale to compliment the back of a chair, with a central motif flowering in the centre in golden woven Indian silk.Ā
